Let 2017 be the year of the Playground!
Construction on the playground is about to start. You can help.
Why a playground and why now?
- Last year, 67% of our treatment hours (over 25,000 hours) were devoted to children under the age of 12, the age group for whom the playground will be geared.
- The benefit to the children will be immeasurable: improved development, social skills and laughter. But that's not all. We envision play dates and play parties on weekends for non-clients when the equipment is not used. Imagine, a safe, fenced space where kids with special needs can enjoy a playground designed for their needs.
- As of July 2017, we have raised over $60,000 and ordered the playground equipment. We hope to raise the remaining funds shortly.
- We are planning a ribbon cutting ceremony for September 9, 2017 which we hope will be attended by many friends of Potential. Friends of friends are welcome.
Children with autism have a difficult time socializing and interacting successfully with other children in free play situations. A playground is the perfect place to gain social and physical skills. Our therapy programs teach them to deal with these situations and the playground will offer them a fun place to practice what they learn.
